earlier today I logged into the site and sent a message to a user who was showing online. when the user didn't respond I clicked on the profile to look at that user's idle time to see if they were busy. the idle time was showing as 556 seconds, almost 10 minutes. I checked twice more and eventually the user disappeared offline at what I would have guessed would have been about 600 seconds. so has the idle time changed to 10 minutes now? if so, I think this is too long, as users can be sending messages to users who actually closed the window ten minutes ago, after all, we don't generally check how long someone has been idle before sending them a message. or is this a bug that needs to be fixed or a one off
This was done as an experiment to see what would happen. We'll see.
What happens If one is typing an extremely large message board post; I'd hate to submit that post after working on it for so long, only to be loged out and thus losing my post because I'm no longer signed in.

well i believe, as has been pointed out before on these boards, that if you wish to post a long board message you are probably better off constructing away from the zone, using word or note pad etc, because, even if you don't get logged out, it is still possible for things to go wrong and for you to lose things. believe me it has happened to the best of us so if that's the only reason for extending the log in time then scrap it. anybody sensible wouldn't write directly into these boards! lol.
silly question but what is idol time?
It's when you haven't clicked on anything while you're logged in. For instance, if you were typing a message on here, like I'm actually doing at the moment, it considers you as "idle" because a link or button is not being clicked on, and therefore you're not really going anywhere thruout the website.

But why do I have still 0 seconds all the time, even though I am reading messages or something like this?
lol. because ines the only way you can check how long you have been idle is to go and look in your profile. in order to get to your profile you have to click on the link. the act of clicking that link tells the server that you aren't idle conversely meaning that it will tell you that you have been idle for 0 seconds.
Ah, blink, silly of me. Yeah. Thanks for that logical explanation which I could have found out myself if it wasn't me with my stupid brain.
